Membership Info
Requirements:
Persons appointed shall be required to:
- be a U.S.Citizen,
- at least twenty-one (21) years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent
- possess a valid drivers license (equivalent to a noncommercial class C Maryland driver's license),
- be of good moral character and stable temperament,
- must successfully pass an oral interview and background investigation,
- be willing to take a loyalty oath,
- be a citizen who cares enough about local government to serve as a volunteer in a public safety capacity.
General Duties of an Auxiliary Police Officer:
- Ride on patrol with regular (paid) officers as backup
- Patrol assigned areas with another Auxiliary Officer
- Provide assistance for departmental call-outs, for events such as:
- Natural Disasters
- Missing person/children searches
- Other assignments as required
- Patrol assigned areas during the special events
- Patrol assigned areas, such as shopping centers, or other shopping / business areas, during the holiday season
- Assist is assigned parades, funerals, events, ect.
- Maintain crime scene security at criminal offense locations
- Provide security and traffic control at special events
- Provide logistic and personnel support for all units with the Police Department
