Membership Info

Requirements:

Persons appointed shall be required to:

  • be a U.S.Citizen,
  • at least twenty-one (21) years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent
  • possess a valid drivers license (equivalent to a noncommercial class C Maryland driver's license),
  • be of good moral character and stable temperament,
  • must successfully pass an oral interview and background investigation,
  • be willing to take a loyalty oath,
  • be a citizen who cares enough about local government to serve as a volunteer in a public safety capacity.

General Duties of an Auxiliary Police Officer:

  • Ride on patrol with regular (paid) officers as backup
  • Patrol assigned areas with another Auxiliary Officer
  • Provide assistance for departmental call-outs, for events such as:
    • Natural Disasters
    • Missing person/children searches
    • Other assignments as required
    • Patrol assigned areas during the special events
    • Patrol assigned areas, such as shopping centers, or other shopping / business areas, during the holiday season
    • Assist is assigned parades, funerals, events, ect.
    • Maintain crime scene security at criminal offense locations
    • Provide security and traffic control at special events
    • Provide logistic and personnel support for all units with the Police Department
