Bel Air Auxiliary Police Unit

Unit Established: 1972

The Bel Air Auxiliary Police Unit is a compliment of volunteer citizen police officers whose duties are to assist in the delivery of police services to the community for preservation of the public peace, safety, and good order as stated and authorized by the Bel Air Town Code.

Volunteering helps save the Bel Air Police Department an estimated $100,000 each year. A volunteer auxiliary police force provides backup and support services at all levels of the police department.

The Auxiliary unit enhances the Police Department's operational and administrative efforts. Auxiliary Officers must conform to all general orders, rules and regulations of the department. They are not sworn officers and do not have the powers of arrest, carry firearms or the authority equivalent to a regular police officer.
